The Nubra Valley is a must See in Ladakh, especially if you're going for the first time. The Nubra and Shyok rivers cut through the populated regions, forming a tri-armed valley. the Nubra River Valley (split into three portions known as Yarma, Turka, and Farka), 


Gyen, the upper Shyok valley from its southern bend to the Nubra River confluence, and 


Shama, the lower Shyok valley from the Nubra River confluence to the Chorbat region.


Trees and fruits in Nubra


Nubra, like the rest of the Tibetan Plateau, is a high-altitude cold desert with little rainfall and sparse flora save along riverbeds. Irrigated and fertile, the villages produce wheat, barley, peas, mustard, and a wide range of fruits and nuts, including blood apples, walnuts, apricots, and even a few almond trees.

  • But, more than anything, Nubra Valley is Ladakh's most picturesque location. The Diskit Monastery, the Hundred Sand Dunes, the Samstanling Gompa, Yarab Tso Lake, and the settlements of Turtuk and Panamik are also worth seeing.

  • Nubra Valley is now accessible all year since the road to it passes via the massive Khardung La, the world's highest motorable civilian all-weather pass.   • Distance between Leh and Nubra Valley: The overall distance between Leh and Nubra Valley is 160 km if you take the usual route through Khardung La, and 150 km if you take the unorthodox way through Wari La.At different locations, there are trekkable crossings across the Ladakh Range from the Indus Valley. 1) Monastery of Diskit


The Diskit Monastery, also known as the Deskit Monastery, is the largest and oldest Gompa in Ladakh's Nubra Valley. The monastery, which was built in the 14th century, is most renowned for its stunning architecture and spectacular location on a hill, overlooking the town of Diskit and the entire Nubra Valley.


A statue of Cho Rinpoche (Crowned Buddha), a big drum, and various images of Buddhist guardian deities can be seen inside the monastery, as well as a massive mural depicting Tibet's Tashilhunpo Monastery. The 32-meter-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha on the monastery grounds is the most notable feature.


2) Maitreya Budda (Buddha Maitreya)


The Nubra Valley contains a major representation of the future incarnation of Buddha, the founder of Buddhist religion. One of the most striking sights in the valley is the 32-meter-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha, which stands on top of a hill inside the grounds of Diskit Monastery.


The monument, which faces west towards Pakistan, looks out over the whole valley. The statue was constructed with three goals in mind: to safeguard Diskit, to avert additional conflicts with Pakistan, and to promote world peace. It was declared sacred by the 14th Dalai Lama personally.


3) Hunder Sand Dunes Camel Safari


One of the most unusual sights in the world may be seen in one of the world's highest deserts: double-humped camels. Riding one of these camels with backrests, as they are known by many, is a remarkable experience that draws visitors from all over the world.

5) Sumur's Samstanling Gompa


The Samstanling Monastery is one of the most visited monasteries in Ladakh, and it is a beauty embodied in the most modest manner. It is located in the jewel of a little hamlet, Sumur. The monastery is situated among stunning mountains, lush greenery, and a clear blue sky, which makes the gold, red, and white Gompa stand out from its surroundings.


6) Lake Yarab Tso


The Yarab Tso Lake is another treasure in Sumur Village, and it's only around 15 kilometres from the capital, Diskit. The splendour of the lake, which requires a trek to access, captivates tourists with its simple beauty and calm surrounds.


The lake, which is a 20-minute trek from the Panamic town, is revered by residents not just in the hamlet, but also throughout the valley. The water is perfectly pure, and you can see to the bottom of the not-so-deep lake, which reflects the surrounding mountains, creating a fascinating scene.


Turtuk Village 


Turtuk is a well-known name among those who remember the 1971 conflict between India and Pakistan. It is located in the Baltistan area. Turtuk, which is mostly Muslim, is India's final village before entering the Pakistan-controlled Baltistan area.

Panamik, the northernmost settlement where non-Indians are permitted, is nestled near to the Siachen Glacier. Special permits are required to enter this town, which is located at a height of 10,442 feet above sea level and is known for its sulfur-rich hot springs.

Wilde life of Nubra
